One Blackpool Council worker must have had a sinking feeling when their vehicle became trapped in the sand between Central and South Pier this afternoon (September 4).
The stranded vehicle - which was reportedly being used to fill channels on the beach caused by the moving tide - was then submerged by waves as the tide came in.

Hide AdJohn Blackledge, Blackpool Council Director for Community and Environmental Services, confirmed the tractor is owned by the council, but added the "most important consideration is that the driver is well."
A recovery plan was quickly put in place to make sure the tractor was removed before the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On.
Several recovery vehicles were spotted by passerby who watched the unusual incident unfold, including another tractor which allegedly brought the stricken vehicle ashore.
