Community groups across Blackpool have shared a £60,000 boost thanks to a fund set up by the company which looks after the town's council housing.

Thousands of pounds from Blackpool Coastal Housing's Tenants Project Fund has been handed out to support schemes ranging from the arts to parks, with grants available from under £500 up to £10,000.

John Donnellon, chief executive of Blackpool Coastal Housing (BCH) , said: “It is fantastic that we have been able to help so many worthy community projects through our Tenants Project Fund.

"This funding goes hand-in-hand with our ethos to support our residents and improve their quality of life.

“It is very rewarding to see these projects come into fruition and the positive impact on the communities it helps.”

Over the past 12 months the fund has supported the following projects:

The Freedom Centre - £10,000 to renovate the internal church space on Mereside including the kitchen refurb which enabled them to recruit and train 12 volunteers from the local community. The centre also provides community services with around 100-150 customers each week.

Skool of Street - £9,980 for their ‘Move-Matics’ project, a free year-long acrobatic and parkour programme for young people aged 11-16 years, with 28 youngsters taking part including 19 from BCH households.

Last Legs - £4,000 for their ‘Home is where the HeART is’ workshops focusing on art activities that support people living in emergency housing accommodation and in isolation.
