Mr Menzies said: “We urge the justice system to take a tough line with offenders to send a message that it is not acceptable.
“I understand there is scope for custodial sentences for these vile crimes and I hope that courts will see fit to hand down strong punishments.”
Mr Menzies and Mandy Leigh, owner of Easterleigh Animal Sanctuary, said they have been inundated with thanks for their support for animals in need.

Mrs Leigh said: “We’ve had about £850 donated so far for vets bills to look after the cats.
“They’re making a good recovery, they’re very cheeky, but there’s a long way to go.
“People’s help is much appreciated.”
Mr Menzies added: “Those people who are looking after animals that have been mutilated in this despicable way deserve credit. We need to support these people.”
