He said: “More than three million couples live together but are not married and therefore do not have the same protections as married couples if they split up.

Hide Ad"There is this belief in the myth of common law rights, particularly if they have a house together or children, but these rights simply do not exist.
“As the law stands, cohabiting couples can only protect themselves by drawing up a cohabitation agreement.”
He is a member of Resolution, an organisation campaigning for a fairer family justice system.
He said:“We are asking the government to change the law. There is simply no excuse for this type of inequality in the 21st century.”
