Residents over 65 can take part in a free road safety course organised by Blackpool Council.

The two-hour driving course offers mature drivers the opportunity to iron out any bad habits.

Since 2009 there have been 271 collisions involving drivers aged 65 plus on Blackpool’s roads. This number represents 11 per cent of all collisions over the last five years.

Coun John Jones, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for streets and transport, said: “The course aims to maintain mature drivers independence, while reducing the number of driver casualties over 65.”

The course is led by a driving instructor from Blackpool Driving School.

Attendees can use their own vehicle. Call Blackpool Council’s road safety team on (01253) 476182.
