Date blunder of banned driver
James Jackson believed his ban had finished on December 12 – but police stopped him five days later and he discovered his disqualification did not expire until the following month.
Jackson, 43, of Gisburn Grove, Layton, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, without insurance or an MoT. He was fined £200, ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge and had six motoring penalty points put on his driving licence by Blackpool magistrates.

Hide AdAndrew Robinson, prosecuting, said police saw Jackson driving a VW Bora on the resort’s Preston New Road on December 27.
Checks showed the vehicle had no insurance and an expired MoT.
When stopped, investigations revealed that Jackson, who had been banned for six months under the penalty points totting-up procedure, had 16 days left to go on his disqualification.
Jackson told magistrates: “I thought the ban ended on December 12.
“I misread the paperwork.”
