Dads story-time to help children learn
A project called FRED (Fathers Reading Every Day) has been launched in the town after research found dads reading to their children has more of an impact on their development than mums doing it.
The first sessions were held at Central Library and included a story-teller, a soft-play area, activities for children, snacks and a free book for all dads taking part.

Hide AdColin Smy, of Blackpool Better Start which has organised the sessions, said: “We know even small children and babies benefit tremendously from being read to.
“Children love cuddling up to their dad and hearing their voice, and they also enjoy looking at pictures and helping turn the pages of books.
“We hope Blackpool dads will join us and start a reading relationship that will help build a strong bond between them and their child.”
FRED is a four-week programme of events and dads wanting to take part should contact their local children’s centre.
