Fleetwood pensioner nearly conned out of £6,000 by man posing as police officer

The victim was convinced she had been a victim of fraud after she was called by an unknown offender.
Posing as an officer from Scotland Yard, the man asked her to withdraw £6,000 in cash from the bank so it could be used as evidence.

Hide AdShe was told to stay on the phone throughout the transaction, before being told to take the money home where a taxi would arrive to come and collect it.
But the scam was thankfully uncovered by a family member who contacted the police, and officers were waiting at her home address where the money was secured.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, but police are warning members of the public to be extra vigilant.
Det Insp Mark Riley, of Lancashire Police, said: "A taxi firm was contacted by the offenders to collect a parcel from the address in good faith. Officers were on scene and managed to intervene and secure the money. The taxi driver was unaware of any crime occurring.

Hide Ad"The police will never ask you to provide bank details, without the necessary identification, or request money or passwords. If you are unsure on the identity of a police officer please ring 101.
"These are unscrupulous offenders with no morals and are only interested in bringing misery during what should be a festive time which is difficult enough during Covid restrictions.
"May I also ask that local taxi firms are conscious of this offence and if they are not happy about collecting items from elderly victims then they should question this and if necessary again call 101."
